India’s (GER) Gross Enrollment Ratio is 27% whereas the census shows the literacy rate is 74% which does not make sense. In India only 4% of the GDP is allocated for education but where is it going? Even Karnataka has shut down almost 14000 government schools in the past 5 years. With rising cost of education, how will India’s 22% people below poverty line get their education? Education sector is severely underfunded in Karnataka too. The unemployment rate is 9.2% now. In just 5 years the unemployment rate has increased by 4%.
Drugs from the Adani-run Gujarat port are allegedly processed and supplied to many states, destroying the lives of student-youths. Their parents are also suffering due to this drug issue. India’s per capita income is very low despite the high GDP showing the high wealth inequality. The cost of petrol has reached Rs. 97 in Delhi. Rupee plunges to an all time low of Rs. 84.38 against US dollar. Border tensions are high with neighbouring countries despite Modi’s 56 inch chest.
In the healthcare sector we have bad facilities and bad infrastructure. In the Supreme court 83000 cases are pending and in the High courts 4.1 million cases are pending.
But all these problems are ignored by the BJP government. Their focus is to create communal tensions:
Waqf amendment Bill
Waqf refers to properties or assets donated for religious or charitable purposes under Islamic law. The board ensures proper administration and utilization of these assets, like mosques, graveyards, madrasas, and more. Only individuals practicing Islam for at least five years can declare a waqf, and they must own the property being declared. The bill removes the provision for ‘waqf by user’ and creates divisions within the Muslim community. The responsibility for surveying waqf properties shifts from the Survey Commissioner to the District Collector or an appointed officer of at least Deputy Collector rank. Does this bill have a connection to theactual problem of our country? No, but in our country the BJP is interested in doing real estate now rather than running the country. It is a tactic to extract more money from the waqf properties.
NRC and CAA
NRC (National Register of Citizens) is a process to document all legal citizens of India, aimed at identifying illegal immigrants. CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) provides fast-track citizenship to non-Muslim persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Giving citizenship to other religions through CAA even if they don’t have any past documents but putting Muslims into detention centres through NRC shows the ideology of
RSS to make India into a Hindu rashtra. Does this bill have a connection to the actual problem of our country?
A citizen of this country has the right to question the government. If they ask the above questions logically to these so called authorities the state reacts with sedition and UAPA as Britishers used to impose on the freedom fighter. Even after all this when they cannot win elections they start new tactics like Sherlock, deleting Muslim and Dalits votes in elections in many states. Excerpts from a recent Al-Jazeera report:
‘They threatened to shoot me.’
Three hours later, when Mustagir returned to the booth to cast his vote, a police officer summoned him. “They seized my voter slip and Aadhar card and tore it into pieces,” he alleged. A voter slip is issued to voters by the authorities to inform them of their nearest booth, while Aadhar refers to India’s biometric identity card, carrying of which is mandatory for a voter along with the voter identity card.
Mustagir said he was taken to a nearby jungle and forced to record a video claiming he was misled by the villagers about the baton charge and that the police officers did not assault him or his father. “They threatened to shoot me in an encounter. I was kicked and punched, forced to say all that on camera. I made the video under their pressure,” he told Al Jazeera later that day.
