AMU Students Protest Arbitrary Withholding of Results

Students at Aligarh Muslim University protested after their semester results were withheld over attendance shortages. They accused the administration of ignoring UGC’s 75% rule and arbitrarily enforcing a 40% attendance cutoff. Students claimed favouritism, saying only those with influence irrespective of their attendance were cleared, while others faced unjust academic penalties and harassment.

Students Protest in Kerala Against Saffronisation

Student organisations intensified campus protests across Kerala’s universities, accusing Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar—also Chancellor—of attempting to “saffronise” higher education through RSS-linked influence and temporary administrative appointments. Protesters stormed campuses, clashed with police, used barricade breaches and water cannons, and faced arrests and FIRs.

Students Protest Delhi Students and Activists’ Abduction and Custodial Torture

Students from across Delhi University campus held a protest on 21st July against the abduction and custodial torture of student activists and others from in and around Delhi, by Delhi Police’s Special Cell in the early weeks of July. The students were held without warrants in secret. During detention, they endured custodial torture, beatings, electric shocks, stripping, and threats of sexual violence. Ehtmam-ul Haque, one of the detainees was subjected to communal slurs on the basis of his identity. The incident has garnered widespread condemnation from different progressive groups across the nation.

IIT Guwahati PhD Students Protest against Fee Hike Ultimatum

PhD students at IIT Guwahati have intensified protests over a sharp semester fee hike—rising by nearly ₹11,000 to ₹45,700—despite the administration’s claim of an ₹8,900 increase after seven years to fund student welfare activities. They are boycotting academic duties and refusing to register unless fees are rolled back. The institute has issued an ultimatum: pay by July 29 or face suspension of registration and campus privileges.

Odisha Student’s Death Sparks Nationwide Protests

Students and youth across the country organised protests against the Odisha BJP government following the suicide of a 20-year-old student from Balasore, Odisha, after her complaints of sexual harassment were ignored. She set herself on fire upon the lack of response from the admin. A day-long bandh was called, followed by mass demonstrations and burning tyres, demanding justice and institutional accountability.
