KSRTC and BMTC Employees Struck Work Demanding Better Wages

BMTC and KSRTC employees went on a state-wide strike on 5th August demanding a payment of arrears for a period of 38 months and a hike in salary. Retired BMTC personnel too have been denied post-retirement facilities like pension and healthcare benefits. The strike was called off later due to intervention of the High Court.

Gaza Solidarity Protest at Charminar

Hundreds gathered at Charminar on August 22, in solidarity with Gaza, in a protest organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of Telangana. Demonstrators condemned Israel’s genocide, systematic violence, and forced starvation of Palestinians. Holding placards and chanting slogans, they demanded a ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian aid, and accountability for war crimes. The protestors also called on India to uphold its historic support for Palestine by halting arms exports to Israel.

Thousands Rally at Jantar Mantar Against Genocide in Gaza

On August 22, thousands of citizens gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, draped in keffiyehs and carrying placards condemning the genocide in Gaza. The protest saw massive support, including the participation of former Rajya Sabha MP Mohammad Adeeb. Protesters denounced Israel’s plan to establish 3,400 housing units to sever Palestinian territories and drew parallels with India’s anti-colonial struggle. They demanded an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian corridors, condemnation of Israeli war crimes, a halt to strategic cooperation, support for the ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu, and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

Thousands in Indonesia Come Out Protesting Their Government

Violent anti-government protests against a range of cost-of-living issues have roiled Indonesia, and anger boiled over after the killing of a motorcycle driver who was hit by a police vehicle during a demonstration in the capital, Jakarta. Protesters marched to the headquarters of the police mobile brigade on 29th August, and some destroyed traffic signs and other infrastructure. The situation shows the growing discontent of the people due to years of imperialist exploitation, similar to the uprisings in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
