On March 18, a coalition of 10 central trade unions, excluding the RSS-affiliated Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), announced a nationwide strike on May 20. This strike is a defiant response to the government’s anti-worker, pro-corporate policies that are systematically undermining the rights of the working class. The introduction of new labour codes is an attack on workers’ dignity, designed to exploit both organised and unorganised workers while favouring imperialist corporate interests.

The unions are demanding the immediate scrapping of these oppressive codes, which serve only the wealthy, leaving workers vulnerable. Workers also call for an increase in the number of employment guarantee days from 100 to 200 and the abolition of the new pension system that enslaves them to corporate agendas.

For the next two months, the unions will mobilise workers nationwide, building support for the May 20 strike as a powerful stand against the government’s betrayal. The strike is not just a protest; it is a fight against the government’s relentless push of imperialist policies that continue to harm the working masses, and a call to defend the rights, dignity, and future of the workers.
